Where do I start?
how to burn a cd
Step
#1 You will need a CDRW (Compact Disc
ReWritable) drive . It does not matter what fancy software you have, you
will not be able to burn a custom CD without one of these.
CDRW drives can be found at just about any reputable electronics
store as well as many online stores. Usually the best deals
on these drives can be found online. Amazon.com
often has some awesome deals. You
have a choice between internal and external drives. An
internal drive is often the least expensive and works just as well
as an external drive, it just lacks the portability of an external
drive. For example if you want to use a single drive on
multiple computers (the computer at home, the computer at work,
the computer down in the basement etc.) you would want an external
drive. However if you have only one computer that you want
burning capability on, an internal drive is ideal. Most
drives are simply plug and play but if you aren't a wannabe
computer tech you might want to call one or bring your computer
into your local computer shop and have them install it. how

#2 You will need some blank CD-R (Compact Disc
Recordable) discs to burn you music to. These are also
available at just about any electronics store, or even Wal-Mart
etc... Just make sure you get CD-R's and not CD-RW's (Compact
Disc ReWritable) Many CD players have problems with
playing CD-RW's. There are many brands of CD-R discs and as
far as I know, no one is better than the other. Just make
sure the blank discs support the highest speed of your CDRW drive
(for example, if you have a drive capable of writing at 16x speed,
make sure the discs you buy say 16x or 20x or 24x compatible on
them. Prices seem to drop more and more as burning cd's at
home becomes more popular. I personally would not pay more
that .50 each. Step
#3 (if you already have a bunch of mp3's you want to
burn, skip this step) You have a working CDRW drive, now
what? Well you need some music. There are many file
sharing programs these days that have done a great job replacing
Napster. Check out our list of Napster alternatives here.
We highly recommend WINMX
because it works well, and does not include any spyware. Once
downloaded and installed you can start downloading music. They are for the most
part self explanatory, and very easy to figure out and use.

Okay, so you have a CDRW drive and a load of MP3's and you
want to turn them into music CD's that you can play in your
regular CD player in your car or home system. Most CDRW
drives include software for burning CD's. (such as Roxio Easy CD
Creator, or Nero Burning Rom) However these titles can confuse the
heck out beginners as they have multiple steps and technical
settings that are designed for experienced users. So to
save yourself a lot of grief we recommend one of the two
pieces of cd burning software above. They are extremely
easy to use and do not require multiple steps or any prior
experience whatsoever. And best of all they create great
sounding music CD's! They both feature free 14 day trials so
you can get acquainted with them and burn as many CD's as you
want in those 14 days.
